VPS Hosting for Web Programmers and Developers
VPS Hosting for Web Programmers and Developers
Advantages of virtual server over shared hosting
There isn't much to write about in this theme as the advantages of VPS for website developers and programmers are pretty much obvious and don't need much reading about. However, there are always those who want to verify their opinions or just aren’t notified enough, so here it goes. There are multiple providers when it comes to hosting on internet including the free ones, but everything has a price even the free ones whether you believe it or not. So, let’s start with the servers or hosting that is free. There are servers that provide with free web space and complete servers for free, but what you will get there well let’s just say you can forget about any of the two things mentioned in the theme of the article being done properly or at all for that matter. These servers are generally meant for some VERY light pages or for some minimum data carriers in a form of pictures or something like that. This is because these servers are generally financed by the ads that are found on those pages. This gives you a clear picture to what kind of software and data can be found on that server. Then after this there is the second option for the bottom of the latter of the possibilities. Shared hosting is something much more acceptable but entirely not sufficient at any way. You see shared hosting presents an opportunity that could be used to make a low investment and still it will provide you with enough resources to complete your tasks, in our case web designing and programing. To make this work you will need a lot of resources at certain times, or the whole process can drag itself for a very long time… Shared hosting just has too many leaks in the system that can affect your intentions for programing or designing in a disastrous way destroying your whole work in a matter of seconds. The fact remains that you are sharing all of the resources with other accounts and with that sharing the same danger of some account going rogue and infecting the whole physical server is always lurking and mostly it will happen because everything is shared including the IP address.
Dedicated server or virtual server
There are two remaining solutions to our problem VPS and dedicated servers. Guess which of these two is taken in greater majority as the most commonly used. You get the same but not the same…you know what I mean. Dedicated server is just like VPS with same control options, but in some cases you can find VPS hosting’s that give more than dedicated at a lower price. The larger scale of services that the VPS provides is clearly obvious, but someone will pay 300, 400 and even more hundreds of dollars for a dedicated server as we are talking about performance on a very high level! That would be extreme cases but we are concentrated on the most common in the IT world, and they all go to VPS hosting providers, and that is where companies like us step in. The more plans the company is offering the better the count of customers will be as everybody will find something for themselves by their calculations and the resources that they have access to. Currently the standard minimum package they you can find is with 512 MB of RAM 1-2 cores, 50 GB of storage, etc…
This all depends from company to company as storage, CPU, bandwidth, number of IP’s, is all variable but the RAM for nowadays conditions has become minimum 512 MB. Anything else represents a secure diminishment of performance and that is why it is not offered at least in our business plans. Because RAM dictates all, true CPU can get overloaded at times but nothing that could take that long and the bandwidth used to its max (mostly customers mistake because of bad judgment in the quantity of resources that will be needed) or there has come to a growth to the number of visitors of the page. This generally means most of the load will be put on RAM and this is where VPS shows its true strength. Burstable RAM has become a very useful option as it allows customers sudden increase of quantity of RAM for a short time in a case of overflow of data on your page. This can commonly happen due to sudden increase of visitors to your page. This is an effective solution until this becomes too often as like said this is a temporary solution and it doesn’t last long. And here is the best part of buying your own VPS when it comes to programing and web design. Your own virtual private server, your own dedicated resources and IP address, not one, not two but mostly 4-6, it depends.
Windows virtual server or Linux virtual server
Most of the users are commonly costumed to Windows surroundings but any program that has spent more time in the IT waters use Windows for everyday tasks and surfing, but Linux strictly for programing. The beauty is VPS supports Linux and has no problems that could be said as serious, as this OS was always very stable. This provides perfect support for any programmer whether it is Windows or Linux OS as everything can be adapted to both of the system. Every system has its own Control Panel which he uses to administrate the account and the VPS. In Linux case that is mostly cPanel. cPanel is used only on Linux and Unix system and the OS that could be said to be their ‘relatives’. Another control Panel that supports both Windows and Linux is the Plesk CP. Every one of them is good at something and bad at something, but there is an article written about that if you are interested. Programmers and web designers know what they need, and reading different articles they find out where they can find it, so make sure you look up to them are read this stuff, as you never know when you could need it.
