Office 365 vs. Office 2013 Pricing: What is the Difference?

As Microsoft announced the pricing of Office 365 and Office 2013 (along with the launch of windows 8 OS and Windows Server 2012) consumers might wind up confused between the two new cloud and desktop services offered by Microsoft. However, it seems that the road Microsoft is taking will ultimately lead to the cloud service, Office 365.

Office 2013 is seen as the successor to MS Office 2010. However, it seems that Microsoft has muddled up the discussion just a little bit by mixing up in chatter about MS Office 365. Most of the channel partners already know that Office 365 supports Exchange Online, Lync Online, SharePoint Online and many other cloud services. However, Office 365 also features desktop productivity functionalities.

Below is a sampling of the pricing, product lineup and subscription services of Microsoft’s Office suite:

Office 365 vs. Office 2013

Office 365 Home Premium:

Office 365 Home Premium can be used in up to 5 PCs or Macs with a single subscription. The package primarily includes PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook and Publisher. In addition, it also includes various plugins for Skype and 20 GB on SkyDrive (the cloud storage). Updates are free.

Price: $8.33 per month or $99.99 annually

Office 365 Small Business Premium:

This is specially designed for the businesses with less than 10 employees. Each user will get PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, Access, and Lync plus Publisher. It will also offer many features involving online meetings, Outlook, website hosting. In addition, each user will be able to roam between up to five PCs or Macs.

Price: $12.50 per user per month

Office 365 vs. Office 2013

Traditional Office 2013 (Single User License):

Office Home and Student 2013 will include PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, and Excel.

Price: $139.99

Office Home and Business 2013 will include all of the apps included in Office Home and Student plus Outlook.

Price: $219.99

Office Professional 2013 will include Publisher and Access, in addition to all the apps in Office Home and Business.

Price: $399.99
