The Microsoft’s Windows Server 2012, along with the brand new upgraded Hyper-V 2012 hypervisor, has started to win the confidence of Microsoft channel partners along with the trust of their customers. One of the best examples for this is the “Quality Technology Solutions”, one of the partners of Microsoft from New Jersey, who started to set up the new Windows Server 2012 OS in one of the law firms with a NetApp Storage Area Network (also known as a NetApp SAN). And the law firm is expecting to save a lot of money in the future because of this one-step long-term solution. In addition, the QTS has also started to take it even further by linking the Microsoft solutions on-premises to new cloud offerings such as Office 365 and Windows Intune.

As Steve Ballmer, the chief executive officer of Microsoft stated “This year will mark Microsoft’s most ambitious product update cycle after the arrival of Office 95and Windows 95, 17 years back”. The CEO also pointed out that Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 and Office 2013 would be the huge opportunities for their partners ahead.

Quality Technology Solutions will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the company this year. It is one of the many companies who are heavily focusing on Windows Server 2012. The company also selected as the New York Metro District Partner of Microsoft for FY2012. It was also one of the finalists for the United States Partner of the Year.

Windows Server 2012: Dell & Fujitsu Join the Party

September 13th, 2012    Posted in cloud hosting, Hyper-V, Microsoft Hyper-V

Longtime Microsoft partners Dell and Fujitsu cashed in on the introduction event of Windows Server 2012 along with a selection of brand new products made to take full advantage of the new operating system’s improved abilities around cloud computing, virtualization, and manageability.

Dell, Microsoft’s most well knows partner, revealed its 12th generation PowerEdge servers. These PowerEdge servers can use Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V tools to build a virtualized server environment, which could then be scaled as required. Both products, PowerEdge M420 & C6220, are specially designed to deliver dynamic virtualization via Hyper-V technology.

Windows Server 2012 is built on the foundation of the deep experience that Microsoft has with very large cloud datacenters” Microsoft’s general manager for Windows Server marketing, Mike Schultz stated. He also added that the 12th generation PowerEdge server designed by Dell will be taking the advantage of the abilities Windows Server 2012 has in the areas of virtualization, networking and storage.

On the other hand, when the management side is considered, Lifecycle Controller Integration technology used by Dell is optimized in a way that it could directly work with the automation tools that come with Windows Server 2012 Configuration Manager. This makes the automated updates of firmware and BIOS very fast.

Microsoft’s other partner, Fujitsu, is going to launch its well known primergy servers with pre-tested configurations to run Microsoft’s new Windows Server 2012. The preconfigured platforms will include FlexFrame on Windows for SAP, Cluster-in-a-box, and Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track. All of which are designed to help the businesses easily and quickly set up private clouds within their data centers.

Hyper-V Server 2012 – Now in RTM (Release to Manufacturing) State

September 7th, 2012    Posted in cloud hosting, Hyper-V, Microsoft Hyper-V, virtualization

While Windows Server 2012 is already available for the general public, Microsoft has also taken the Hyper-V Server 2012 to RTM (also known as Release to Manufacturing) state. And now you can download it.

The Hyper-V Server 2012 can be seen as a dedicated stand-alone product, which contains the hypervisor, virtualization capabilities, Windows Server driver model, and the supporting components like failover clustering. However, it does not contain the powerful set of functions and features like the Windows Server OS. Due to that, Hyper-V Server only produces a little presence and requires minimal cost to the consumer.

Hyper-V Server 2012 RTM might seem like the same hypervisor as the Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V, as they both have the same features and scale. However, unlike Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V, Hyper-V Server 2012 RTM does not feature the free virtualization rights to set up Windows Server on guest operating systems. It is more or less stripped down with simply just Hyper-V host and almost nothing additional.

Hyper-V Server 2012 can be seen as a good choice for VDI, Linux hosting, labs, and also to upgrade older hosts without SA. Furthermore, Hyper-V Server 2012 does not come with a GUI (graphical user interface), so you must use remote admin, PowerShell, or SConfig in order to manage the machines.
